Highlights:
The Bike for Life team biked over rolling terrain. It was one of the most scenic routes so far. Everybody enjoyed the ride despite the heavy rains. We were accompanied by 2 riders from the Aklan Cyclists Club as we left Aklan towards the province of Capiz. During the last 45 km, around 10 riders from the Capiz Cycling Club joined the B4L team including their only lady biker, Sally. One of the riders, Mike Gutierrez, was wearing the Philippine Team jersey... the exact same red, white and blue jersey we saw the Philippine Cycling team wore during training at the velodrome. He used to be with the national team but decided to settle down back to his own province and put up a thriving bike shop near Gaisano mall here at Roxas City.
The riders convened at the city hall for a courtesy call at the local government. The vice mayor welcomed us and gave all the riders their much needed drinks and snacks. After some rest and the sumptuous inasal lunch, the group proceeded to the gymnasium of the Filamer Chirstian College for the 3pm Cancer Awareness forum for the local nursing students. I guess what made this forum different compared to the rest was the presence of a 'spiritual adviser' in the forum. The way she sermoned was... well... err... different... (ask the B4L team for details. *wink*).
Boy Siojo was in charge of our bikes' "health". The bikes needed an overhaul and it was such a relief that Mike's shop was conveniently located near our resort as well. We only spent 600 pesos for the mini overhaul of 9 mountain bikes! Imagine that!!! I spent 500 bucks for my bike alone before I left Manila! Hihihi...
Cancer Forum at Roxas, Capiz
Anyway, Roxas City is such a nice and serene place. We left with regret for not being able to walk around and enjoy the beach and its fine sand. Capiz has been known to be the land of aswangs and manananggals. But for the Bike for Life riders and the support crew, it is the land of yummy otap and unlimited oysters!!! (Oh! And did I mention that Ricky Pineda -- president of the Firefly Brigade -- ate 4 buckets of oysters!!! Hehehe...)
The People who made this fourth leg a Success:
The Cancer Warriors Foundation would like to thank the following people from Roxas, Capiz:
to follow ang pictures at ang mga pasasalamatan!!!

Hi Carmela,
You are all doing a great job! Kayang kaya nyo yan lahat. In a way, swerte kayo dahil you are doing what only others could dream of. I know it's not at all easy but still, what's important eh enjoy kayo at the same time nakakatulong pa sa iba. Tell Ricky hinay hinay lang sa oyster baka ma high blood siya. Ilang pounds na nawala sa kanya? Hello also to Eric c+, Carol e+ and Boy Siojo who is doing a great job in being your bikes' mechanic.
thanks! will send your regards to the riders! we're all doing fine here at the city of smiles. ricky is now talking to locals to have the tour of the fireflies simultaneously run here in bacolod for next year. hope all is well with all of you back there! =)
